pictures of dust

February 14th, 2010

vik muniz, Tony smith die (pictures of dust)…

ok, check it out. this guy (vik muniz, the artist) took installation
photos of sculptures at the Whitney. then he took dust from vacuums
that had been used in the rooms where the sculptures were. he used
that dust to "paint" a copy of the photo. then he took a photo of that
dust painted copy. that’s what you’re looking at. conceptual enough
for you?

I won’t.

February 12th, 2010

the perfect vibe for a Friday…let's go for a Japanese style reggae walk while consuming lots of pickles cucumbers…satisfying the munchies, meeting hot chicks and making great friends like Steak Pretzel…

Jim Henson’s mind

February 11th, 2010

This one is tough to hear, but worth it. It's also a little heavy, so let's have it on a Thursday, with the weekend within arm's reach…

Don't worry too too much about understanding what he's saying, just go along for the ride…Jim Henson was/is amazing…

[thanks to Arthur for this one…]

smoooth, Magnificat!

February 10th, 2010

This vid has a fantastic soundtrack, and a story that feels like a Saturday morning cartoon gone all pcp demented. It moves from weird to weird with a beard, and this is a good thing. In another universe this would be a big hit.

It's basically about this vulture guy who has a dream that he builds an inter-dimensional car for this evil pilgrim snake, who is in turn thwarted by Magnificat who has a magical cane that can turn into things (clouds, saxophones). I think that was one of the plots Shakepeare was considering for Hamlet, but he went with the whole ghost/king/death/crazy instead.

I offer this to you to help you get through your Wednesday. Use it liberally.

didn’t know he played accordian

the big hat

February 9th, 2010

Wow you guys. So there's this whole South African rap thing going on around the internet tubes, and some of it is amazing. This particular vid is so fresh.

Sometimes I wish I could be with you when you see something, you know? To experience that fun, full blast awesomeness of something great. I wish I could be there to hang out with you while you watch this video, it's so freaking good. I wish I could see the look on your face when the big hat shows up. You'll know what I mean when you see it. Try to remember the look on your face when the big hat shows up.

Let it roll…

Deja vu

February 6th, 2010

some psychologists argue that the eerie experience of déjà vu is simply when we’re fooled by the unexpected ease of taking in a piece of sensory information, and interpret that as a memory of having been there or seen it before.

1. GIRLS WITH ANNOYING GUYS ON SUBWAY

GIRLS: just because you’re drunk during the day doesn’t mean you get to be extra annoying.

GUYS: yes it does!!!

GIRL: where are we going anyway?

GIRL 2: we’re going to get my cake.

GUY: yeah, let’s go get Whitney’s cake!

GUY 2 (leering): let’s all eat Whitney’s cake tonight!!!

other guy hi fives him.

2. quote from article about Vermont:

America, ignoring the advice of its own horror movies, is entirely built upon the site of an old Indian graveyard and must take its ghosts and hauntings as they come.
