November 25th, 2009So, NASA. I’m not really 100% sold, though I like the North America, South America idea, and they’ve got some great images and music, and what a line-up of guest stars on the album! But somehow the tracks don’t quite coalesce into the brilliance they suggest.
That said, this is kind of great. Kool Keith and Tom Waits on the same track?! Yes please. But it kind of sounds like they’re on different tracks that were forced together, and even Tom is one of my all-time faves, I have to give it to Kool Keith on this one. The video helps to kick it into a new level though, and it’s fun to see Tom come in as the big smoke monster…not bad…

no more shoes
November 24th, 2009Maxine was having fixed at a shoe repair place. On the way over we had
to get creative with the driving because there were a ton of fire
engines and ambulances blocking a big part of smith st. We duck and
dodge and manage to get in close to the cobbler’s, park, and put some
money in the meter. We head over there and something major is going on
— tons of cop cars, people walking around, chaos.
as we get closer, Maxine makes the joke "I bet it’s the shoe place
that burned down or something."
and it was.
sure max had to say goodbye to 3 pairs of shoes, but the owner (who we
talked to as we were leaving) had to say goodbye to his whole world…
he said, "it was everything"…
Carl Sagan has insight
November 24th, 2009this has been floating around the net a lot, but I would be remiss if I didn’t clue you in to this elequent essay by the one and only Carl Sagan about the positive effects that smoking pot has had on his life…
sample:
“There is a myth about such highs: the user has an illusion of great insight, but it does not survive scrutiny in the morning. I am convinced that this is an error, and that the devastating insights achieved when high are real insights; the main problem is putting these insights in a form acceptable to the quite different self that we are when we’re down the next day”

November 22nd, 2009where credit is due
November 22nd, 2009There’s a bunch of brooha over this director ripping off ffffound images for his latest video (which frankly isn’t that great), but this video, which he made earlier, is solid. Good concept, gets better as it goes along. The song is ok I guess…I loved that Lenny Kravitz album when it came out…I was in college and Jeff C and I went to see Lenny in concert at GW in DC…he did "Let Love Rule" as the encore and when the song finished, the crowd just kept singing "let…love…rule…" over and over and Lenny walked out into the crowd…I touched his dreads at one point, it was weird…
still, strange move from Justice to remix it, right? Also major points off for disabling embedding in youtube. Losers. Forcing me to go over to his website, dl the QT, convert it to flash, etc. Why? Let people embed it for crying out loud…

November 19th, 2009Just wow. Sometimes a song put with found footage can work together to be kind of subime. Put another way, you know I love stuff that makes me feel like I’m on psychedelics when I’m stone cold sober a 10am in the morning. I feel like I’ve seen this footage before, or atleast some clips of this show…I’m pretty sure it’s Japanese, and as kooky-weird as Teletubbies or HR Puffnstuff…
Stick with it, both the video and song get better and more affecting as they go along…

November 16th, 2009I like this a lot…
I’m trying to think of other things that go in there…like finishing a project that has dominated your world for a time…watching a marathon of a guilty pleasure…
