great quote from Warren Ellis about the BBC:

“It competes with commercial broadcasting in the same way a mountain competes with a road: the mountain was there first, and if the road doesn’t want to route around it, it can piss off.”

good quote about being an artist

March 6th, 2010

You are the composer of your very own legacy and you know the swagger it deserves to be strong to you first, because you are the first one envisioning it. You will sleep at night and your work will party in the studio like it’s 2099. Creating something is half the battle these days. Sure, acceptance is a difficult seven course to swallow and sometimes life as an artist may masquerade itself as a ruthless gauntlet and a darling at the same time, but that is what should make up the running joke within the trench hole from where you wage your vision.

This video about the new LCD Sundsystem record is kind of ho-hum unless you totally geek out on seeing large racks of modular synths. Which I do.

a dream of St. Teilo

March 4th, 2010

Ever since I’ve come to the UK I’ve been having really vivid dreams. The
one I had my first night was especially life-like and strange. A bunch of
things happened, but the one that stuck out in my mind the most was that
Maxine at one point was riding a deer that had been saddled like a horse.
I told her about it last Sunday because it was such a strong image and
Maxine loves loves loves deer.

So it was quite surreal to spend some time today in this amazing old Welsh
church, and come across a wooden carved railing that told the story of St.
Teilo. At one point in his story, St. Teilo is told by a Count that he can
have all the land he is able to ride around, from sundown to the cockrel’s
first crow in the morning. In order to get as much land as possible, St.
Teilo rides on a white stag…

It was just odd to see this image from my dream echoed here, carved in
wood. Very odd.

So you've heard about chatroulette, right? Have you tried it? I haven't.

But this guy has, and he's made a little film about it that somehow manages to adopt a charming tone about a tricky subject…good stuff…
