Cock Rock Disco

April 30th, 2009

The description from the artist:

"There is something growing behind the modern day corporate life, something weird. Break-cutted-mashup-video-core: The videofocuses on the frontlines of modern day life, on work and leisure, art and powerpoint"

The content’s a bit simplistic, right, but the form, wow. Crank it up, it delivers the goods. It’s apparently a mash of 15 different artists on the Cock Rock Disco label (great name for a label). Solid stuff.

spring harmony

April 17th, 2009

What a gorgeous day. Wow. Had my final eye appointment today and the doc said my recovery was "a miracle", so that was pretty great. Also the weather was pretty great. Also this clip of old-timey harmonica players that Pat H sent me is pretty great.

isn’t this the whole reason I have a blog? isn’t this why youtube was invented?

the 4th dimension is time, it goes inside the mind

February 24th, 2009

listening to the In Our Time podcast this morning, all about time, our conception of it, or perception of it…heady stuff for the subway ride in, makes me wanna ditch work something awful…

good philosophical puzzler in there: if the universe was empty, if there was no "thing" in the universe, no "stuff", would there still be time? it’s great to hear the host get more and more confused as the podcast goes on and gets into stranger concepts…

reminds me of something I used to get into when talking about hallucinations, the fact that we are all experiencing hallucinations ALL THE TIME, that we aren’t seeing the sun, we are seeing light that is 8 minutes old, that the stars we see are apparitions of stars (some long gone), that we don’t actually see any objects, we see the light reflected by matter (i.e., we’re seeing what those objects don’t absorb, or what they AREN’T, not what they ARE), that when you get down to some quantum physics, particles move backwards in time, etc ad infinitum.

bars and tone

January 19th, 2009

It’s been a long time since I saw something on the internetz that made me say "I must blog this immediately!" This is simple and great. Those of you who have to deal with B&T will especially dig it.

"what’re u doin in a cave?!"

I #@*! the spiders on the walls

November 18th, 2008

I know there’s some kind of meta-point to be made here about culture and how the methods used by authority to control it are the same methods that artists will use to comment on it, or something, but I don’t feel like explicating…

instead, just enjoy this:

bacon club

November 14th, 2008

Wednesday night Maxine and I went out with a group of folks to a place on Apt 138 on Smith St…sort of nice mid to upscale comfort food…since we had been shooting all that day (stressful) in the Alzheimer’s ward of a nursing home (intense), we went about as comforty as you could get and ordered their meatloaf wrapped in bacon with gravy. Truly you can make anything better by wrapping it in bacon.

On a semi-related note, when it comes to funnyordie, sometimes I think they’re too slick or clever for their own good, sometimes it frustrates me that they are big money pretending to be indie humor, and sometimes it just cracks me up. This one cracks me up:

welcome our robotic mambo overlords

November 5th, 2008

another in a long line of internet things that astound me, that make me say "Is this happening in the same world in which I live?"

the 6-legged, goateed, fedora-wearing, Lou Vega-dancing robot:

I love the commenter on yt who says "I, for one, welcome our Lou Bega-headed, robotic Overlords."

MTV makes me wanna smoke crack

October 28th, 2008

It looks like MTV has put a big chunk of their music vid library online, with embedding capabilities…neat…and it looks like there are a fair few obscure vids on there too, like this random example, one of my favorite vids of all time, Yo La Tengo’s "Sugarcube" (they don’t have "Tom Courtney" yet, and I KNOW I saw that on 120 Minutes!)…

If I could do a poll, I’d do "do you like trip hop: yes, no maybe".

hopefully my olde VHS dubs of videos from 120 minutes will soon be obsolete! [via]
